Feeling unstable while changing position after head injury (Query of the Day)

Question: This query is for my mother,aged 50. Recently she had a head injury after a fall. There was bleeding that time, so she was taken to hospital for emergency care. She was given treatment and was under observation for three days (there was no vomiting for these three days). According to the doctors there was no internal injury and no scan was done. Now the problem is, whenever she changes position, from sleeping to sitting or from sitting to standing, her body shakes. So I want to know is it normal and if she will recover with time? Answer: Your mother might be suffering from a condition called postural induced vertigo. This condition usually should improve with time. It is important to know for how long your mother has had the condition – that is, how long back did she sustain the injury, and if she was having medication like Aspirin before the fall – to make an accurate diagnosis. It is a good idea to get a basal CT scan soon to see the degree of damage and possibility of any other complications arising out of the condition.
